This morning I finally found a ship which was willing to bring me to the island of Shikoku. A ferryman made this trip once per day. He was the captain of an old ship with three masts which hung weakly in the wind. The wind, which was so strong the day before, seemed completely gone. As I was sailing on the waves, I checked my equipment. My Naginata, which I got a few weeks ago from Master Toshiro, had a large crack in the wooden pole. I could still use it, but I needed to be careful or the pole would be completely broken into pieces. Somehow Kokoro damaged my weapon in our last fight. I can’t remember how it could happen, but then again it was a hard fight.

At the beginning of the evening, the ship arrived on the shore of Shikoku. I landed in the port of Kitanadacho, the northernmost town of the island. While I was looking for an inn, where I could stay the night, I found a small store. From the inside I smelled a nearly intoxicatingly good scent which brought me inside. It was a small tea shop. Behind the counter stood a young man, who seemed to have two different coloured eyes. His left eye was green, and his right eye blue. He asked me if he could help me and I explained to him that I only came inside the shop because of the smell. He explained that they not only sell tea here, but also healing herbs.

He began explaining to me expertly, the different herbs they had in stock and then made me a small sachet with different herbs. He said it was a gift for the long travels I have still ahead of me. When I wanted to leave he called after me his name and the name of his store, so I won’t forget it. “Takahiro, tea and herbs.” With this new gift I began looking again for an inn.
